16 to 19 Tuition Fund
The Department of Education has given funding to support students whose learning was disrupted as a result of the COVID pandemic. This 16-19 Tuition Fund is available to all 16 to 19 providers such as Ryburn Sixth.
The funding will be used to support students at Ryburn Sixth who have had their learning disrupted in the 2020 to 2021 academic year from the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak across the curriculum.
The funding will be used to support small group tuition for 16 to 19 students in English, maths, and other courses where learning has been disrupted. The subjects covered in the tuition will not be limited to English and maths but will be identified according to need and existing programmes. We will also prioritise students with special additional needs and disabilities (SEND) and disadvantaged students, particularly where they have experienced additional disruption to learning as a result of their specific needs and disabilities.
Ryburn Sixth will be using the small group tuition funding that it has been given to mitigate against the impact of the pandemic with small study sessions, over and above students’ normal timetabled sessions. Sessions will be limited from one to five students per group. Students will be prioritised for small group tuition based on the guidance released by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).
The full guidance can be accessed here.
Support sessions will be prioritised for the following students:
Those with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan
Students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
Those who had a grade 4 or below in GCSE Maths and/or English at age 16
Disadvantaged students
Examples of some of the Tuition Support on offer will include:
GCSE exam re-sit preparation
Bespoke subject support/catch-up
Tuition Support offered will be administered by trained tutors and based on assessment of students’ individual needs.
