Student support

Our small size means great support. Wellbeing comes from great relationships. Our staff get to know you really well, what makes you tick and when something isn’t right. If you have any issues, whether in or out of Ryburn, there’s always someone you can talk to.

We have a small team of student support mentors, who make a huge difference to student success. They monitor student attainment, attendance and punctuality so that they can quickly pick up on and resolve any issues. Working closely with the form tutors, Head of Sixth Form, the pastoral team, parents and carers, they make sure students get whatever support they need, whether that is to deal with underperformance or personal issues. Students know we are on their side, and that we will continually check in with them to keep them happy and focussed.

I especially like how everyone supports each other and looks out for one another. All of the staff help students to feel safe and make it clear that they are there whenever we need them for anything, even if it is something tiny.

Our Lead Mentor Tutor Mrs Logan explains how we support students

A culture of support

As well as staff, you’ll find the students at Ryburn Sixth are a wonderful source of support. Our team of Senior Students represent the interests of the student body and make a difference on your behalf.

There’s lots of opportunities to get involved and support others, including acting as a subject mentor to support students in lower school in lessons, reading, revision or practical work. Students have formed a peer support LGBTQ+ group who organised a school-wide Pride event, and have delivered presentations in iGen lessons sharing their own advice and experiences on deciding your post-16 options.

Helping others boosts your own wellbeing, and is also great experience for your CV and UCAS applications.

Financial Support

Support is available to eligible students from the 16–19 Bursary Fund.  This fund is intended to support students aged 16–19 to overcome specific barriers to participation so that they can remain in education. The funding can support students with transport, meals, books, revision guides, equipment, and attending university open days and interviews.
