This course encourages students to develop skills and knowledge which are key for the film industry, use of specialist language, creative and production skills and a study of film form looking at both Hollywood world and British cinema. We aim to spark students’ appreciation for film and its history as well as its cultural diversity. The course will also teach transferable skills such as analysis, criticism approaches and research.

What will I study?

Qualification: A-Level Film Studies

Exam board: Eduqas

Component 1: Written examination 35%
- American and British film
- Covers six feature-length films

Component 2: Written examination 35%
- Varieties of film
- Covers five feature-length films and one compilation of short films.

Component 3: Production 30%
Learners produce: either a short film (4-5 minutes) or a screenplay for a short film (1600- 1800 words) and a digitally photographed storyboard of a key section from the screenplay plus an evaluative analysis (1250-1500 words)
